The PerSisters Human Rights Team is working on a campaign to encourage people of all backgrounds, religions, races, and ethnicities to feel welcome in Stillwater.

Two members of the Persisters attended the January 18, 2019 meeting of the business group, Main Street Stillwater IBA, chaired by Aimee Pelletier. The Persisters had engaged with the group last August after Islamaphobic literature was dropped at local businesses on Stillwater’s South Hill.

At that time the notion of placing a welcome sign in local businesses was proposed as a step that would identify the Stillwater area as a city that embraces diversity and values inclusion.

Last fall member Melissa May created a window-cling template that was shared at the January meeting. The IBA members voiced approval for the display of a window cling but favor one that is more universally recognized with the message « All are Welcome Here ».

The Persisters will receive a nominal sum to support the effort and will work with IBA members to produce and distribute them to local businesses this spring. The Stillwater Chamber of Commerce indicated an interest in making the window clings part of its welcome materials for new businesses too!
