Democracy For All Amendment – Get Big Money Out of Politics! Feb. 10 Full Membership Meeting
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
STILLWATER, MINNESOTA, FEBRUARY 10, 2019 — If you are fed up with corporations being considered people, and money being equal to free speech, we have a cause you can get behind. On February 10, 2019, the Healthcare Team of the St. Croix Valley Alliance NOW is sponsoring the chair of the state chapter of American Promise, an organization behind the Democracy for All Amendment, the proposed 28th Amendment for the U.S. Constitution.
Vicki Barnes, the Minnesota chair of American Promise, a national organization dedicated to getting money out of politics, will lead a discussion on how this affects Minnesota at the monthly meeting of the St. Croix Valley Alliance NOW. The event, Feb. 10, 1:30pm, at the Stillwater Public Library, is open to the public.
The Amendment would advance democratic self-government and political equality, and to protect the integrity of government and the electoral process. Congress and the States would regulate and set reasonable limits on the raising and spending of money by candidates and others to influence elections. They will also have the power to enforce the legislation and to distinguish between people and corporations, preventing corporations from spending money to influence elections.
The bill to vote on the 28th Amendment was introduced in Congress by Democratic Representatives Ted Deutch of Florida, Jim McGovern of Massachusetts and Jamie Raskin of Maryland, as well as Republican Representative John Katko of New York.
American Promise says it will work to grow Congressional support through grassroots action and organizing throughout 2019.
“Once big money is out of politics with the 28th Amendment, the voice of the American people will be restored,” the movement states.
Join us February 10 at 1:30 pm at the Stillwater Public Library, Margaret Rivers Room, 224 3rd St. N., Stillwater, MN. 55082, for what promises to be an informative event.
St. Croix Valley Alliance NOW, formerly the St. Croix Valley Women’s Alliance, was formed in 2016 to champion activism for the common good. SCVANOW is a chapter of the National Organization for Women. The website is SCVANOW.ORG
