THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO BAD WEATHER – Vicki Barnes is now scheduled to appear at our Feb. 10 full membership meeting, talking about the 28th Amendment, Democracy for All. Barnes is the state coordinator for American Promise, an organization dedicated to getting big money out of politics. The meeting is at the Stillwater Public Library at 1:30pm. The public is welcome!
On January 30, 2019, the Healthcare Team of the St. Croix Valley Alliance NOW is sponsoring an informative, free screening of the movie “Big Money Agenda: Democracy on the Brink.”
This movie looks at the effects of big money on our rising healthcare costs and what we can do about it. Following the movie, Vicki Barnes, of American Promise, a national organization dedicated to getting money out of politics, will lead a discussion on how this affects Minnesota.
From 1998-2017, the healthcare sector spent $9 billion lobbying our legislators. And what did it get us? No negotiation for Medicare drug prices, no single payer or public option for healthcare, and no competitive importation of drugs. While Americans support Congressional action to reduce costs and provide healthcare for all, the needed reform hasn’t happened. Corporate agendas rather than public interest are dictating our national healthcare policy.
American Promise is devoted to passage of a Constitutional Amendment that will restore our ability to regulate campaign spending. Once big money is out of politics with the 28th Amendment, the voice of the American People will be restored.
Join us at 6:00 p.m. at the Stillwater Public Library, Margaret Rivers Room, 224 3rd St. N., Stillwater, MN. 55082, for what promises to be an informative evening. The event is open to the public.
St. Croix Valley Alliance NOW, formerly the St. Croix Valley Women’s Alliance, was formed in 2016 to champion activism for the common good. SCVANOW is a chapter of the National Organization for Women. The website is SCVANOW.ORG

It should be a very interesting film and if history serves, the discussion will be lively!
